The people of the table mountain landscape have always had an economic and emotional connection to the mountains. Quarries, lime burning, millstone mines, stone masonries. Without the mountains, one of Sweden’s oldest stone churches in Varnhem could not have been built. Without the mountains, the monks had never gone underground in Lugnås to cut out millstones. The mountains have been, and remain, an important resource that has supported the people.
