UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a UN body which was established in 1945. UNESCO’s priorities include education for all, science to develop the world, cultural diversity and heritage, and freedom of speech and of the press. Sweden is one of the major voluntary contributors to UNESCO. All of UNESCO’s member states (195 countries) should have a national commission which functions as a link between UNESCO and organisations within the country. In Sweden, the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO holds this position.
